This was the first trip that I had use of Instagram. Let me say: Genius and I know why Instagram posts and ravings have popped up everywhere recently. As for any Twitter followers, I’m sure you’ve already realized how much I am loving this app. You’ve had to suffer through numerous pictures of drinks, dogs and architecture. More importantly, most of my photos from Anitgua, Guatemala were taken with Instagram.
We finished the field school in Antigua, as to allow for decompression time, and a little mental relaxation after the “Trauma Tour”. Here are some of my favourite shots from Instagram in Antigua.
This is the best drink ever. Te Frio Limon (Lemon Ice Tea) from Cafe Rainbow. Recommended. I practically lived at Cafe Rainbow for a week, largely because of this drink and the excellent WIFI.
Cafe Condesa is located right off the Parque Central in the Main Square. All the old house in Antigua had a central courtyard. They’ve converted this old house into the Cafe but left the courtyard intact, making for one of the best places to have breakfast or lunch.
The inside of Caffe Bourbon, located between the Arch and the Parque Central. Favourite proper restaurant in Antigua. It’s a jazz bar/restaurant/WIFI zone of awesomeness.
This is what every street looks like in Antigua. This is why it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This couple hundred year old ruined cathedral was just at the end of my street. It was beautiful in its ruin, and completely under-appreciated. But when there is a church like this on every block, it’s hard to take note of every one.
One of the buildings of the Parque Central. There were always musicians, markets and teenage lovers under the arches.
And here is the finale. El Arco. That quintessential Antigua and Guatemala shot.

Beautiful pictures. Especially El Arco. Makes me want to go see it for myself. I love Central America and your pictures capture it beautifully.
Thanks! It really is a wonderful place. Particularly Antigua. I’ve been a fair few places at this point, and for someone for North America, you just can’t really get that old world feel anywhere else (well maybe Quebec City a bit).
I like the look of Instagram photos. I almost wish I had an iPhone, but I’m pretty sure I would also inundate my feed with photos.
It’s so bad. It becomes addictive quickly, and then before you know it, all your photos are of drinks and pretty flowers that you think would look nice in Instagram. It’s in everyone’s best interest that I am at home and it’s fairly boring, or else they might never see the end of it!
