In Zona 1 of Guatemala City, there is a huge amount of graffiti, much of it political. Whether it is related to mining, genocide, the disappeared or justice as a whole, you will be hard-pressed to find a block without some kind of political statement along the walls of its buildings.

This is one of the more beautiful pieces and located just down the street from our city residence at the Spring Hotel. If you are ever in Guatemala City, keep an eye out for it. It’s a way of speaking one’s mind and using art to convey a political message.

  1. Great photo – I love street art and snapping photos of it, and seeing stuff from around the world. If you’ve snapped enough shots of it, a photo essay would be awesome! :D

    • I wish I had. Zona 1 in Guatemala City has some amazing (and particularly political street art), but my (free) time was limited there, and it is one sketchy town so I wasn’t crazy about exploring by myself.

Street art is definitely something that I am starting to be interested in, and will keep my eye out for in coming travels.
